Every year, State legislators from New York City push for anti-gun legislation that would severely restrict the rights of law-abiding gun owners all across New York State, and every year I have fought to successfully defeat their agenda to infringe on your Second Amendment rights!
My Senate Republican colleagues and I have also been successful in blocking numerous anti-gun measures, including microstamping requirements, the registration of long guns with county clerks, ammunition bans, and prohibitions on .50 caliber firearms.
If enacted into law, these measures would seriously threaten every New Yorker’s Right to Bear Arms, a right that is guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States. I am a firm believer that our Constitutionally-protected Second Amendment Rights are sacred and I have consistently opposed any measure that would violate or infringe upon the freedoms guaranteed to law-abiding gun owners in New York State.
As you know, the fight is never over! If I am going to continue my fight to stop the Downstate Legislators’ assault on our Second Amendment freedoms, I am going to need your support! The Senate Republicans hold a very slight majority in the New York State Senate. If the New York City Democrats gain control of the State Legislature, particulary the State Senate, they will force through any number of intrusive anti-gun measures.
Responsible gun ownership and hunting are a long and important tradition in our State, with generations of family members passing down the values of safety, sportsmanship and an interest in outdoor recreation.

Below are just a few examples of the measures currently introduced in the State Senate by NEW YORK CITY LEGISLATORS which would strip you of your Second Amendment Rights. Measures such as these could become law if the New York City Legislators were to take control of the New York State Senate.
- Bans the sale, use or possession of 50-caliber weapons;
- Requires semiautomatic pistols manufactures or delivered to any licensed dealer in NY to be capable of microstamping ammunition;
- Requires firearm licenses to be renewed every five yeras and would require all firearm applicants outside of New York City to complete a training course before licensure;
- Creates crimes of failure to store a weapon safely and negligent storage of a weapon;
- Imposes new requirements on firearm retailers and requires that they obtain insurance to cover criminal acts committed after the legal sale of a firearm;
- Bans all handguns that do not contain child proofing to prevent anyone 5 years old or younger from being able to fire it. Effectively banning all handguns in NYS.
- Increase the types of firearms that are to be included in the firearm ballisitic identification system.
- Establishes additional requirements for firearms licenses.
In addition, the Attorney General is launching another attack on gun owners’ rights, fighting in federal court to uphold New York State’s restrictive ban on concealed firearms.
